Did you know? The Charlesgate Farmers Market is
powered by
your neighbors
We’ll tell you the story:
Once Upon a Time… in 2023, there were two neighbors named Caroline and Maddy who lived near a quiet little park under the Bowker Overpass. The park had good bones—Olmsted bones, in fact—but it was mostly forgotten, tucked between busy streets and tangled ramps.
They knew this space needed new life.
So, like any good fairytale heroines, Caroline and Maddy rolled up their sleeves and dreamed up something magical: a farmers market, right there in the shade of the overpass, where neighbors could gather, dog’s tails could wag, and fresh veggies could fly off tables. They rallied the city, wrangled permits, and charmed vendors. They built this market and it was almost ready to go.
But magic needs momentum—and they needed someone to spread the word.
Enter Rachel. She was young. Like, really young. Like, “did you come here by yourself or did your mom drop you off?” young. But she was full of energy, social media savvy, and absolutely thrilled to tackle spreadsheets and join their mission to better their community.
Did she promote the market like her life depended on it? Yes.
Did she post a few goat memes anyway? Also, Yes.
Together, this trio of volunteers began to spread the word, and grow the market into a lively Sunday ritual. However, the market deserved some consistancy, so they brought on a staff member to help manage things as it grew, making sure vendors and visitors alike always feel welcome and supported.
And so, with little more than determination, a dream, and a dozen or so folding tables, they summoned local farms, artists, bakers, and florists each week. The air began to smell like sourdough and sunflowers. Spirits lifted. Dogs wagged their tails with purpose.
The market began to have a vibe - a little goofy. A little farmy. Unexpected. Curious.
It’s grassroots, it’s joyful, and it’s the kind of thing that only happens when neighbors come together to create something special. It’s the Charlesgate Farmers Market.
So come. Grab a peach. Dance in the shade. Pet a dog. Channel your inner goat and make yourself at home. Because in this fairy tale, the park gets its second act.
